New to COH

Welcome to Community of Hope Lutheran Church. If you live in or are visiting Tucson, AZ, we'd love to have you join us for church this weekend. We understand going somewhere new is never the easiest thing to do, especially if you are new to church, so we hope our website helps you learn more about us, and makes that first visit easier. When you're ready, we have three Sunday services where we'd love to say hello in person.

What to expect:

What should I expect at a service?

We have two services Sunday morning, a traditional service at 8:00 am and a contemporary service at 10:30  am. As you enter Community of Hope you will receive a bulletin with service order, lyrics to the worship  music and announcements of what is going on in the church. Both services start with worship music  followed by readings from scripture and a message from one of our pastors. After the message we will take  an offering and greet one another (Sharing of the Peace) before we share in Communion.

During the 10:30 service children, ages 3 to 5th grade, are able to go to Kid’s church during the message and hear a more age appropriate lesson. They then return for the remainder of the service during Sharing of the Peace.

We also have a 6:00pm service Sunday Nights.  Join us for praise, fellowship, and shared learning about walking with our Lord. The music is mellow and encourages everyone to enjoy praising God together. No sermon, but always sharing of the Word and our experiences along with occasional formal teaching.

What am I expected to do during singing?

Nothing! You’re invited to participate in any way you feel comfortable. You might choose to listen, sing along, clap, raise your hands, stand, sit, kneel, cry, laugh, dance, pray – any or all of the above. Please feel no pressure to participate in any particular form of praise.

What am I expected to do during offering?

Do not feel obligated to give. Offering is an opportunity for regular attendees to worship God with their whole selves.

What am I expected to do during Holy Communion?
All who believe in Christ who come confessing, desiring God’s forgiveness and new life, are encouraged to come to the Lord’s table, where Jesus comes to us in the bread and the wine. The Communion assistant holds a chalice of wine (dark) and one of grape juice (white) – dip the bread in either chalice. Children who have not received instruction may come forward for a blessing.

What am I expected to wear?
Come as you feel comfortable. Most people dress casually, however, with so many people from different backgrounds we have a wide range of styles and tastes

  What about children?

Children are welcome here! They’ll learn a lot by watching and experiencing Jesus’ presence. For parents’ comfort, we have a nursery staffed for children up through age 3. Also we have a welcome center just off the Sanctuary where you can follow along with the service if your children need to move around. During the 10:30 service children ages 3 to 5th grade are welcome to go to Kid’s church during the message and hear a more age appropriate lesson. They then return for the remainder of the service during Sharing of the Peace.
